4.Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a Skin disease. In this condition, skin speeds up the life cycle of skin cells. It causes cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. As underlying cells reach the skins surface and die, their sheer volume causes raised, red plaques covered with white scales The extra skin cells form scales and red patches that are itchy and sometimes painful. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the torso, palms, elbows, knees, and scalp.

Psoriasis is not cured, but we can manage symptoms with Ayurvedic medicine.

According to Ayurveda Psoriasis arises due to an imbalance of two "doshas" "Vata" and "Kapha ( According Charak sahita )."Kapha is responsible for body growth and can lead to the itching and rapid skin cell turnover that psoriasis is known.

Symptoms:
  • Loose silvery scales
  • Itching or burning skin and inflammation
  • Raised pus-filled skin bumps
  • Skin redness around pustules
  • Restricted joint movement
  • Stress
  • Dry skin patches and Bleeding skin patches

Causes:

The exact etiology of psoriasis is unknown. however it presumed that psoriasis is a manifestation of an inborn defect of the epidermis ,hence it may familial tendency. It supporting the ayurvedic concept of beejdosha in kusta. This disease may start between  the age 10-30 yrs,in this period is kapha pradhana..the attack also liable to occur commonly winter and rainy season.

Vat prakopa factors such as stress,anxiety,mental act as precipitating factors.

The samprapti is presumed to be due to vitiation of vat and kapha.these two vitiated doshas through siras reach twak and vitiating Rakta and seating in twak causes Vaivarnya and symptom of psoriasis.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Fever, Diet & Lifestyle:
  • Avoid all type of milk sweets, JAGGERY, alcohol ,incompatible foods, sour and spicy foods or food that are difficult to digest
  • Avoid taking cold bath immediately after exercise or when the body is hot and suppressing the urge to vomit.
  • Avoid sleeping in afternoons.

Home Remedy:
  • Virechan at beginning and whenever the necessity with triphla churn and haritaki churn according to the suitability of the patient.
  • Decoction of 20 -30 Neem leaves and 10 gm rhizome of Haldi boiled in about 2 glass of water then cool it and use this water to wash the affected area.
