1. Oligospermia (Low sperm)

Oligospermia is a male fertility characterized by a low sperm count. According to WHO if male ejaculates less than 15 million sperm per milliliter in this condition.

Actual diagnostic test include the semen analysis that examines ejaculate for the amount and quality of sperms.

In Ayurveda,Oligospermia known as Napunsakata (impotency) or Shukra kshaya

Symptoms:
  • Low sperm count.
  • Burning urination.
  • Testicular pain.
  • Even may have dilated veins in the scrotum.
  • Swelling in scrotum.

Causes:

In this condition is Pitta dosha is involved, which when imbalanced leads to the loss of shukra

It can be caused by various factors -

  • Obstruction of normal flow of sperm due to testicular trauma, Vericocele and vasectomy
  • Decrease in the sperm production due to Hormone issue
  • Stress, Smoking, Drug addiction or alcohol consumption
  • Exposure to some toxins
  • Loss of nutrition
  • Underweight
  • Sexually transmitted disease like Syphilis or gonorrhea
  • Wear tight clothes and not to expose testicles in high temperature such as hot tubs.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Fever, Diet & Lifestyle:
  • Take a diet high in protein, carbohydrates like glucose, one table spoon cow ghee vegetables like Bathua, and whole grains like black gram.
  • Avoid bitter, astringent and spicy sour foods. Reduce caffeine intake.
  • Loss any excess weight, which tends to cause testosterone/estrogen imbalance.
  • Reduce stress levels with the help of yoga ,exercise and meditation 
  • Massage body with Shri gopal oil, which improves blood circulation.
  • If you more times sex done so the less dense your semen will be hence Maintain a gap of three days between two consecutive ejaculations.
  • Stop bad habits like smoking, alcohol consumption, etc. Alcohol affects your liver function, which increases estrogen levels.

Home Remedy:

In the standard Ayurvedic texts does not mentioned about the count of Sperm or Motility of sperm but clearly mentions the quality of semen in the form of ‘Shudha shukra Lakshana’.

 Healthy semen more fertile is described as-

shukram shuklam guru snigdham madhuram bahalam bahu|
ghritamaakshikatailabham sadgarbhaya ||”

That is semen is white, heavy, sticky, sweet in taste, more in quantity and which may same like the color of ghee or honey or oil is always fertile.

The treatment of oligospermia is administration of Rasayanas and Vajikarak dravyas or medicine used and Panchakarma & Vajikarana therapies for detoxification with diet and lifestyle modifications producing healthy offspring.
