Hypothyroidism

The thyroid gland is located in the front of lower part of neck. Thyroid Hormones travel through bloodstream and affect nearly every part of body, from heart and brain to muscles and skin When Thyroid hormone does not released to enough amount from gland then called hypothyroidism. If you dont have enough thyroid hormone, body processes slow down. That means body makes less energy and metabolism becomes sluggish. 

Ayurvedic treatment involves clearing channels in order to balance body energies and restore the circulation of thyroxin. Herbal preparations are administered to increase the digestive fire at a cellular level and proper metabolism.

Symptoms:
  • Decrease in metabolism, with the slowing of mental and physical activity.

Causes:

According to Ayurveda, the main cause of hypothyroidism is Kapha and Pitta Doshas. The Main cause of Hypothyroidism is the deficiency of Iodine. Other causes are caused by pituitary or hypothalamic disease or certain medications like amiodarone, lithium and interleukin. 

Ayurvedic Medicine for Fever, Diet & Lifestyle:
  • Foods that have a high content of iodine like asparagus, potatoes, white onion, etc. are recommended.
  • Coconut oil helps in improving body metabolism in thyroid patients.
  • Foods that slow down the functioning of thyroids like sweet potatoes, spinach, cabbage, mustard greens, and cauliflower should be avoided.

Home Remedy:

Mix equal quantities of long pepper (Pipali), black pepper and dry ginger powder. Consume half teaspoon twice a day with lukewarm water

Punarnava tablet and Shigru tablet should be taken with a 30 ml decoction with Kanchnar or Punarvana plant’s bark twice a day.
